2016 Brighton Barons

BHS 2 and Pittsford Sutherland 2

BHS Varsity Field hockey opened the season at home with a tense 2-2 overtime tie with Pittsford Sutherland.  Gianna Palma score the first BHS goal at 10:27 left in the first half on a rebound of her own shot following a BHS penalty corner.  Sutherland tied the game with three minutes left in the first half.  It stayed that way until 5:18 left in the second half when Sutherland scored to take the lead 2-1.  Palma then scored her second goal of the game with 3:30 left in the game to tie the game at two, and it remained that way after a ten minute overtime. BHS goalie Ashley Mann finished with 5 saves in the game.

Game 2 Loss:  BHS 0 and Irondequoit 1

The Lady Barons lost 1-0 to Irondequoit at their home field on Friday, September 2nd.  Irondequoit scored the lone goal with 4:08 left in the game  following one of their 5 penalty corners against BHS.  The Barons attempted  a season high nine penalty corners themselves in the game.  BHS goalie Helen Kruschwitz made 4 saves in the loss.

Game 3 Loss:  East Rochester 2 and BHS 1

The Barons lost 2-1 to ER at their home field on Wednesday, September 7th in front of a vocal crowd.  ER scored the only goal of the first half six minutes into the game off a penalty corner.  BHS forward Liz Burke evened the score at one a piece early in the second half after a scramble near the ER goal. ER scored with only 8:22 left in the second half off their second penalty corner of the game to take a 2 to 1 lead.  There was some tense moments near the ER goal in the final minutes of the game as BHS pressed for the tying goal, but ER held, and the Barons ran out of time to score the equalizer despite putting a season high 16 shots on the ER goal.  BHS goalie Ashley Mann made 5 saves in the loss.

 
Game 4 Win: BHS 1 and Eastridge 0

BHS Field hockey won their first game of the year 1-0 over Eastridge in an exciting end-to-end game on Friday night September 9th.  Ella Charlesworth scored the only goal of the game with 3:26 left in the first half off an assist from Gianna Palma.  BHS goalie Helen Krushwitz made 6 saves in earning the first shutout of the year for the Barons.

Game 5 Loss:  Mendon 4 and BHS 0

The Barons lost 4-0 to a very strong team from Mendon on Monday, September 12th at Mendon's home field.  Mendon scored two goals in the first half (one off a penalty corner) and two goals in the second half to earn the victory.  BHS goalie Ashley Mann faced a barrage of shots and made a season high 18 saves in the loss.  Hannah Macias also earned a defensive save for the team as well. 

 

Game 6 Loss: Penfield 2 and BHS 0

The Barons lost a difficult game to Penfield 2-0 on Wednesday September 14th.  BHS put 10 shots on the Penfield goal and had 7 penalty corners; while Penfield only had 4 shots on goal and 2 penalty corners.  Both Penfield scores came on odd numbered rushes in the second half.  Two BHS apparent goals were waived off for rules violations during the game.  Genevieve Mishon was very aggressive  defensively and had a BHS season high 7 turnovers created on Penfield players during the game.  

Game 7, Tie: BHS 2 and Fairport 2

The Barons played Fairport even for 70 minutes Monday, September 17, 2016 finishing with a tense 2-2 overtime tie.  Gianna Palma scored both BHS goals and Annie Kase earned one assist in the effort.  Fairport outshot BHS 15 to 11, but goalie Ashley Mann made 12 saves and Fiona Nelson was credited with one defensive save in the game to preserve the tie.  Genevieve Mishon broke the two-year old BHS single game record by having 11 turnovers created on Fairport players during the game.
